Focus and Scope

Arquivos de Zoologia (AZMZ) cover primarily the areas of Zoology, publishing original contributions in systematics, paleontology, evolutionary biology, ecology, taxonomy, anatomy, behavior, functional morphology, molecular biology, ontogeny, faunistic studies, biogeography, and history of museums and collections of natural history.

The journal also encourage submission of theoretical and empirical studies that explore principles and methods of systematics.

All contributions must follow the rules and recommendations of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature (ICZN).

Relevant specimens must be deposited in an institution maintains official, public or private, non-profit.

Tissue samples should be referred to their voucher specimens and all nucleotide sequence data (aligned as well as unaligned) should be submitted to GenBank or European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL).

Peer Review Process

All submissions are subject to analysis by at least 2 (two) referees and the Editor-in-Chief.

Publication Frequency

Regular, semiannual (june and december).

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

Basic Information

Arquivos de Zoologia to publish original contributions in systematics, paleontology, evolutionary biology, ecology, taxonomy, anatomy, behavior, functional morphology, molecular biology, ontogeny, faunistic studies, biogeography, and history of museums and collections of natural history.

Its abbreviated title is Arq. Zool., which should be used in bibliographies, footnotes and bibliographical references and strips.

Formerly “Arquivos de Zoologia do Estado de São Paulo”, v.1 (1940) – v.14 (1966), it is a traditional journal in the Field of Zoology in Brazil.

The journal aims to publish original scientific papers in the areas of systematics, paleontology, evolutionary biology, ecology, taxonomy, anatomy, behavior, functional morphology, molecular biology, ontogeny, faunistic studies, and biogeography.

Published by the Museu de Zoologia da Universidade de São Paulo (MZUSP), the journal is indexed in the main reference databases and appears every six months.
