Focus and Scope
CLINICS publishes peer-reviewed articles of interest to clinicians and researchers in the medical sciences. CLINICS is registered with PubMed Central and SciELO and complies with the policies of funding agencies, such as the Wellcome Trust, the Research Councils UK (RCUK), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the German Research Foundation (DFG), which request or require deposition of the published articles that they fund into publicly available databases. CLINICS supports the position of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (http://www.icmje.org/) on trial registration. All trials initiated after January 1, 2012 must be prospectively registered (before patient recruitment begins) in a publicly accessible registry. Trials initiated before January 1, 2012 must be registered before submission to our journals. See the ICMJE FAQ regarding trial registration for further details. Visithttp://www.who.int/ictrp/network/list_registers/en/index.html for the WHO's list of approved registries. CLINICS suggests:http://www.clinicaltrials.gov/ a user friendly site.
Most institutions and funding agencies have set up funding sources to cover Article Publication Costs. CLINICS will grant fee waivers when the authors cannot obtain funding, provided they send the Editorial Office a formal request clearly justifying their need.
Manuscripts involving human subjects or the use of laboratory animals must clearly state adherence to appropriate guidelines and approval of protocols by their institutional review boards. Photographs that may identify patients or other human participants of studies shall be acceptable only when a legally valid consent form is signed by the participating patient, other human participant, or his/her legally constituted representative.
