Abstract

The aim of this in vitro study was to qualitatively analyze the morphological characteristics of the adhesive interface using different aging methods. Twenty-fi ve human recently extracted erupted third molars were divided into fi ve groups (n = 05) according to the aging protocol used: G1, distilled water for 24 h; G2, distilled water for 6 months; G3, 10% NaOCl for 1 h; G4, 10% NaOCl for 3 h, and G5, 10% NaOCl for 5 h. The occlusal surface of the specimens was ground and, subsequently, blocks were constructed using an etch-and-rinse bond system, which was followed by application of a thin layer of fl owable resin composite and a nanohybrid resin composite, according to the manufacturer’s instructions. The specimens were stored in distilled water for 24 h at 37°C, and then sectioned perpendicularly to undergo the aging protocols mentioned above. After processing of the specimens, comparative analysis of the adhesive interface was performed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Storage of the specimens in the 10% NaOCl solution for 1 and 3 h produced a dentin-resin interface with features similar to those obtained after 6 months of storage in water.
