AbstractRenato Ortiz is certainly one of the most influential thinkers of the social sciences in the country and one of our most internationally recognized intellectuals. Some of his books such as Cultura Brasileira e Identidade Nacional (Brazilian Culture and National Identity; São Paulo: Brasiliense, 1985), A Moderna Tradição Brasileira (Modern Brazilian Tradition; São Paulo: Brasiliense, 1988) and Mundialização e Cultura (Mundialization and Culture; São Paulo: Brasiliense, 1994) became "new classics" of social sciences in Brazil and are practically obligatory references in studies on a wide range of subjects of the area of communication.
