Keywords: news broadcasting, BBC, Rede Globo.
AbstractThis article consists of a comparative analysis between the news broadcasting of two major networks: Brazil’s Rede Globo and that of the British Broadcasting Company (BBC), both considered references in the field of journalism in their respective countries. It examines the historical relations these broadcasters have established with the basic premises of journalism (public service, vigilance, the “fourth power”, objectivity, actuality) and also outlines the historical development of both networks, as well as the social, technological, political and corporate factors that have helped shape the style of journalism adopted by each.
