Funk carioca’s pedagogies: God and Devil in the land of sound

Abstract

This article aims to start a discussion about the different pedagogies involved into thediffusion of the musical genre known as funk carioca. In this sense, it uses as referencesuch authors as Sodré, Rousseau, Mészáros, Freire and Boal. The empirical part is basedon the in locus observation of two events with distinctive nature: the launch of thebooklet of MCs Liberta o pancadão and a slum funky ball organized by a gang of drugtrafficking. The first section introduces the two pedagogical sides of funk carioca; thesecond presents two subtopics, describing the event to launch the booklet and the examinationof their contents; the third section describes the funky ball; the fourth initiatesa discussion about the pedagogical possibilities of funk based on the chosen authors.
