Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze the development of strategies in nonprofit organizations located in the city of Belo Horizonte. Given that nonprofit organizations have in their daily lives the need to promote management actions consistent with a given rationality, which is not necessarily the same for public and private institutions, an appropriate management to their specificities – substantive and non-instrumental – became a major challenge. The study consisted of a descriptive and qualitative research in which were used documents and semi-structured interviews with representatives of 22 organizations, analyzed in accordance with the assumptions of content analysis were used. The axis of the main methodological data analysis was content analysis. The survey results showed that the perspective of the strategy in nonprofit organizations is becoming more complex, without losing the procedural characteristics of fundraising, mobilization and legality. This characteristic reinforces the need to invest in nondeterministic studies such as strategy as a social practice, especially in this field, where the construction of prescriptive models seems inconsistent with the presented reality, since it was clear that the strategy making in these organizations takes place through social and political constructions.
