Abstract

The article aimed to explore the relationship between competency management and organizational actionsbuilt for sustainability. The main question under consideration is whether the competency management canact as director of organizational actions aimed at sustainability. To this end, we carried out a qualitative,exploratory and literature research. A search was made on theoretical and methodological studies aboutsustainability e competencies, and discussed their relationship. In order to verify this relationship in the field,we selected three large companies located in northern of Paraná-Brazil. Data were collected throughinterviews with managers of the department of human resources. Outlined that the alliance betweensustainable management practices and competency models adopted by the organizations procedures tend toresult in benefits for society, economy and environment. The relationship in question is regarded asimportant and necessary in the companies surveyed. However, two of them, it was noted a low correlation between competence management and sustainability actions. Only one company had the best relationship ofconcepts studied Finally, competency management, in all the companies studied was admitted as an essentialelement for consistency in the development of organizational actions aimed at sustainability.
