Abstract

Social inequities are decisive factors that prevent the guarantee of integral access to health, affecting the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community. This study aimed at investigating the dimensions of health care for the LGBT population concerning SUS services in the city of Cuité-PB. This study has a qualitative approach, through the assessment of semi-structured interviews, which were then transcribed and analysed based on the content analysis method. The analysis led to the emergence of two empirical categories: (1) “Gossip, confusion and shouting”: differences, disagreements, and lack of knowledge about the LGBT population, which is divided into two subcategories that address the managers’ view of the LGBT community and also their demands, respectively; and (2) Pathways and deviations towards a comprehensive LGBT health: weaknesses, potentialities, and process perspectives, also subdivided into managerial accountability and health strategies. Managers showed little knowledge on the demands and strategies for the LGBT population and did not perceived themselves as actors responsible for the care of this public, contributing to the fragility and disarticulation of the care network regarding the LGBT community.
