Resumo

Este artigo tenta lançar luz sobre as possíveis convergências e divergências entre os pontos de vista teóricos de Axel Honneth e Jürgen Habermas, dois dos mais importantes filósofos sociais das últimas décadas. Primeiramente, tenta-se, a partir de seus pressupostos metodológicos, posicioná-los ante o debate contemporâneo entre éticas do "bem" e do "justo". Depois, é incluída a intuição de que as lutas sociais por reconhecimento podem se tornar um medium relativamente frutífero para compreender a linha evolutiva que levou às instituições políticas da modernidade ocidental. Examinando-se, por fim, o papel do direito em sociedades modernas, tenta-se observar até onde pode chegar a teoria do discurso habermasiana e em que ela pode ser complementada pela teoria do reconhecimento social.
