Abstract

This article is the development of a lecture of the same name, given on occasion of the Third Symposium of Irish Studies in South America, held at Universidade Federal da Bahia (Salvador, Brazil, September 10 to 12th, 2008).

    ALBUQUERQUE, MARCOS BARBOSA DE is a professor of Drama Theory and Playwrighting at Universidade Federal da Bahia (Salvador, Brazil). He has a master's degree on performing arts and now prepares his doctorate at the Programa de Pesquisa e Pós-Graduação em Artes Cênicas (UFBA). As a playwright, Marcos Barbosa has written
    over a dozen plays, most of them performed or published in Brazil, United States, Italy, England or France. His tranlations of plays into Portuguese include Frank Wedekind's 'Fruhlings Erwachen', Pierre de Marivaux's 'Mais n'te promene donc pas toute nue!' and William Shakespeare's 'Richard III'.
