Author Biography

  • Sven Kretzschmar, Saarland University

    Sven Kretzschmar is a poet from the southwest of Germany, and a philosopher specialising in medical ethics. He has read Analytic Philosophy and English at Saarland University, Modern and Contemporary European Philosophy at the University of Luxembourg and Medical Ethics at University College Dublin. His poetry has been published widely in Europe and overseas, among other outlets with Poetry Jukebox in Belfast, in Writing Home. The ‘New Irish’ Poets (Dedalus Press, 2019), Poets Meet Politics (Hungry Hill Writing, 2020), Hold Open the Door (UCD Press, 2020), Voices 2020 (Cold River Press, 2020), Voices 2021 (Cold River Press, 2021) and 100 Words of Solitude (Rare Swan Press, 2021), in The Irish Times, Das Gedicht, Loch Raven Review, The Bangor Literary Journal, Studi Irelandesi, Culture Matters and South Florida Poetry Journal. Sven is the illustrator of Grimwig and Bert Borrone’s Perpetual Motion, both authored by Bert Hornback. Academic publications have appeared in Think Pieces. Food for Thought (a festschrift) and are forthcoming in Theoria and Praxis and others. A former coordinator of the European Federation of Associations and Centres of Irish Studies and of the Leuven Centre for Irish Studies in Belgium, he is now working in the healthcare sector in Germany. He is the current chairman of the German-Irish Society Saarland.
