Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a degenerative and progressive disease of central nervous system, characterized by movement disorders. Objective: to asses the functional performance and quality of life of parkinsonians in initial and middle stage. Methods: Twenty patients (60,8 ± 9,7 years) in Hoehn and Yahr stage between 1 and 3 were evaluated and compared with 20 healthy adults and elderly (63,5 ± 6,3 years). The Human Activity Profile (HAP), the gait speed, and the ability to ascend and descend stairs were used as outcome measures to evaluate the functional performance; the Nottingham Health Profile was used to evaluate the quality of life. Results: The findings demonstrated significant differences in HAP scores (p=0,000) and gait speed (p=0,05) indicating poorer physical conditioning and slowness of movements in patients in patients with PD. Conclusions: These findings demonstrated that changes of functional performance are present since early stages of PD and not only in advanced stages.
