Resumo

The genus Afropollis, described by DOYLE et al. (1982) and considered as one of the most distinct elements of the North Gondwana palynological associations (Aptian-Cenomanian), is present within palynological associations of samples from the Caballos and Une Formations in the Upper Valley of the Magdalena Basin and in the Eastern Cordillera respectively. Analysis of samples from the Caballos Formation (Aptian-Albian) has revealed the presence of Afropollis operculatus, Afropollis zonatus and Afropollis aff. A. jardinus. Analysis of samples from the Une Formation (Albian-Cenomanian) demonstrated palynological associations which are characterized by the presence of Afropollis jardinus and Afropollis aff. A. jardinus. All of these features were observed in a qualitative analysis of surface samples. The stratigraphic distribution of different species of the genus Afropollis in Colombia is the subject of ongoing research.
