The purpose of this paper is to show an estimation of the value of agricultural financial surplus in Brazil from 1980 to 1999. A definition of financial surplus based on Social Accounting Matrix (SAM) is used to estimate such flow. Besides that it was also necessary to estimate consumption of agricultural households as well as investments in the agricultural sector. Net Surplus (difference between agricultural value added and consumption of agricultural households) and for Financial Surplus (difference between Net Surplus and investments in agriculture) values were positive. During the 90's Net Surplus and Financial Surplus estimates showed positive trend. Another important results for the 90's consisted of the Financial Surplus values when terms of trade were taken into consideration. Such values were noticeably higher than normal flow values, albeit with a decreasing trend in the difference between them. This is due to a favorable evolution in terms of trade to the agricultural sector during the same period.
