Resumo

The present paper aims to analyze the participation of Brazilian old-aged, individuais with 60 years or more, in the labor market, in the period from 1994 to2000. The database is the microdados of Pesquisa Mensal de Emprego (Employment Monthly Survey of Employment). It is estimate the probabilities of labor force participation in the formal sector and the probabilities of transition to inactivity from different origins. At a general form, the results obtained shows that, although of increasing proportion of old-aged in the population, the drift is of reduction in this individual participation in the labor market. This behavior became more clearly since 1998, period that coincide with Social Security reform, which proof the preventive altitude by the individual that look for anticipate the retirement, trying to escape of the new rules.
