"Je me propose, dans cette présentation, de soutenir la thèse suivante : l’usage du « je » dans le langage et la pensée repose sur deux types bien distincts, et pourtant liés, de conscience de soi : conscience de sa propre existence corporelle, celle d’un corps vivant doté d’états mentaux ; et conscience d’être engagé dans une activité mentale qui consiste à établir une liaison raisonnée entre ses contenus mentaux."
