This article discusses the relations between the book Sacred Theory of the Earth, elaborated by the English Anglican theologian Thomas Burnet (1635-1715), and the Baroque experienced by 17th European society. In this study, it was possible to identify the strong influence of the Baroque cosmovision about time in Burnet’s geological theory, that has important contributions to the thesis elaborated by the modern Geology about the Earth and the dynamics of terrestrial phenomena. So, it’s possible to verify a theorical tension about time in 17th century, which precedes the empirical discussions on deep time attended by the Geology in the late 18th and the 19th centuries.
