A influência da medicina oriental na Europa moderna: o caso do bálsamo de Gileade

Resumo

Este artigo pretende analisar a influência de uma substância de origem oriental na medicina europeia moderna. O bálsamo de Gileade ou bálsamo de Meca, como ficou conhecido, foi descrito por autores leigos e médicos, e demonstra as trocas que ocorriam entre cristãos e muçulmanos no âmbito da medicina. Atrelado a tal discussão, busca-se verificar se o fato de o bálsamo ser cultivado em regiões de domínio islâmico durante esse período gerava críticas por parte dos europeus.

  • Marina Juliana de Oliveira Soares, Universidade de São Paulo

    Bacharel e Licenciada em História, com Mestrado em Letras Orientais/Árabe e Doutora em História. Desenvolveu pesquisa de Pós-Doutorado em História da Medicina do Período Moderno, no Departamento de História da USP entre 2015 e 2017.
