O relatório da DEA sobre os riscos da ayahuasca: a “ciência” a serviço do proibicionismo?

Resumo

Em fevereiro de 2023, a Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) divulgou um documento para a equipe jurídica que representa a Church of the Eagle and the Condor (“CEC”). Essa divulgação ocorreu dois anos depois que a igreja, em conjunto com o Chacruna Institute, enviou duas solicitações baseadas na lei de liberdade de informação [Freedom Of Information Act] à DEA e ao Departamento de Justiça solicitando todos os registros referentes à ayahuasca. Esse relatório, intitulado “Ayahuasca: Risks to Public Health and Safety”, foi publicado em julho de 2020. No presente artigo, contestamos várias alegações feitas no relatório da DEA e destacamos omissões factuais significativas, vieses teóricos e interpretações errôneas dos dados existentes. Demonstraremos que o relatório da DEA minimiza muito o perfil de segurança e o potencial terapêutico da ayahuasca e enfatiza demais os riscos. Ele também não inclui as pesquisas atuais sobre a ayahuasca que demonstram seus benefícios potenciais.
