Encontros íntimos: economias afetivas em Cuba e na República Dominicana

Resultado de uma pesquisa realizada em Cuba e na República Dominicana, este artigo explora os usos da intimidade tanto no setor corporativo quanto nas relações românticas. Utilizo dados obtidos em entrevistas com trabalhadores de hotéis e com pessoas envolvidas em trocas afetivo-sexuais conectadas ao turismo para relacionar a intimidade às estruturas políticas e econômicas do turismo transnacional. Esses novos campos de análise revelam práticas de intimidade geradas corporativamente, nas quais o amor – ou a exploração emocional dos trabalhadores – e o trabalho se combinam. O objetivo central é entrelaçar o íntimo com o global, desde as políticas formais de atendimento ao cliente em hotéis transnacionais até os encontros informais e cotidianos entre turistas e trabalhadores do setor de hospitalidade. A comercialização da intimidade, incluindo as relações afetivo-sexuais na prestação de serviços de acolhimento, está atrelada aos processos políticos e econômicos que fazem parte das práticas do turismo transnacional. Este artigo desafia a noção de que o turismo sexual e o trabalho sexual são práticas individuais, desconectadas dos espaços de lucro corporativo global. Além disso, sugere que relacionamentos envolvendo dinheiro não são necessariamente desprovidos de cuidado e intimidade.
