Abstract

This study focused on the formal recognition of critical competencies in an institution of higher education and the associative mechanisms of these competencies with individuals at the different levels in this teaching environment. The goal was to evaluate the existence of strategic proximity between essential competencies and those of the individuals. A review of literature was made to support the reasoning and comparison with field research and data analysis. The Delphi methodology was adapted for field survey collection, analysis and presentation of results. With regard to the task of research, originally developed to evaluate the existence of strategic proximity between critical competencies and individual skills in a higher education, based upon theory and field research it can be stated that there is need to foster proper recognition for the concept of teaching and academic competencies.
