Abstract

This study critically analyzed taxonomies adopted by some authors for the classification of strategies directed toward the resource of knowledge. The critical factor for those interested in strategy formulation for corporate management of the knowledge resource, either as an academic or practitioner is the understanding of the potential value for the corporation and stakeholders. Alternatives to be adopted should be evaluated. These strategies are often based upon physical aspects such as space, software and information technology resources which are related to implementation and should be discussed only at a later stage. A taxonomy proposal was presented for alternatives of organizational investments in the resource of knowledge, discussing exclusively aspects of strategic interest. It serves as an instrument for initial dialogue and the motivation necessary for managers to include the knowledge resource in the agenda of strategic discussions.
