Abstract

This article is the result of research that aimed at verifying the way in which teachers and students in anAdministration course of a private university in São Paulo perceive teaching skills. The aim was to highlightamong teachers an indication of competence in the teaching-learning process and how it is are perceived bystudents. For the concept of competence, the main references were Le Bortef (2003), Zarifian (2003), Fleuryand Fleury (2001) and Dutra (2004); for the discussion of teaching and learning, the authors analyzed werePerrenoud (2000) and Masetto (2003a, 2003b). The methodology used was based on qualitative, exploratory research, opting for the study of a single case aiming to increase the knowledge and enhance understandingon the subject of teaching skills. We used the Student’s t-test and the  One-way-ANOVA as a way ofachieving the necessary reliability in dealing with the sample. The results of this study revealed di erences in the perception of teachers and students primarily on teaching skills and teaching strategies and, to a lesser extent, on the development of skills in students, where they revealed a greater impact than in thevision of the teachers.
