Abstract

The risk of death and industrial accidents among electrical workers in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) were studied. The results show a high age standardized mortality ratio and a high proportional mortality due to malignant diseases in this group of workers. The analysis of the distribution of accidents reveals: a higher incidence in one labour district (city centre), poor recording of injuries which do not affect working activity a possible increase in accidents related to overtime working and high incidence of accidents probably related to managerial responsability.
