This article presents theoretical reflections related to the contribution of the social and human sciences to the public health field. Taking the articles of Eugenio Villar and Mirta Rose Periago et al, as subject of analysis, the authors try to emphasize the relationship of social justice that inspires the approach of the Social Determinants of Health with the contemporaneous social context and with the paradigms related to the social determination. At the same time, the authors focus ethical questions and reinforce the importance of the social dimension of the health - disease process, which implies in the re-politization of the Health Field. The authors also discuss the concept of political participation and its limits to deal with the challenges of social fragmentation and the high level of poverty and social exclusion.Downloads
