Abstract

Considering that Frida, film directed by Julie Taymor, does not investigate the mythical dimension of painting, this paper explores some aspects ofAmerindian writing in a self-portrait ofFrida Kahlo, specifically the role of a rebus used by the Mexican painter to express her relationship to the mythical goddess Xochiquetzal, patroness of weavers and the art practiced by women.
