Dr. Kristian Berg Harpviken é sociólogo e professor pesquisador no Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO). Ele foi o diretor do instituto de 2009 a 2017 e atualmente lidera o PRIO Middle East Centre. Os interesses de pesquisa de Harpviken incluem processos de paz, construção da paz, dinâmica da guerra civil, migração e comunidades transnacionais e metodologia em contextos difíceis. Harpviken foi pesquisador visitante na University of Chicago e na Georgetown University, e é associado da University of York, do Doha Institute for Graduate Studies e do Institute for National Security Studies Sri Lanka. Harpviken é conhecido por sua competência em questões relacionadas ao Afeganistão e arredores, mas também trabalhou em vários outros países, incluindo Angola, Bósnia-Herzegovina, Irã, Iraque, Líbano, Moçambique, Paquistão, África do Sul e Turquia. Harpviken é um comentarista de mídia frequentemente e faz palestras regularmente para o público acadêmico e geral. Ele é autor de Social Networks and Migration in Afghanistan (Palgrave Macmillan, 2009), and (with Shahrbanou Tadjbakhsh), A Rock Between Hard Places: Afghanistan as an Arena for Regional Insecurity (Hurst/Oxford University Press, 2016).
