Abstract

A study quoted by Richard M. Morse mentions "incompatibility between Jewish groups" in São Paulo in 1941. A research was undertaken to see if this could have been caused by the different languages and traditions of Ashkenazi Jews from Eastern Europe, and Sephardic Jews of Iberian origin. Their paths throughout history were shown. The frail communication between them in Brazil could not be defined as incompatibility. Interviews for the Oral History project: Jewish immigration in São Paulo, of the Jewish Brazilian Historical Archive, recall fights between different left-wing groups in the thirties which explain Morse's quotation, but the interviews also confirm that Jewish integration in São Paulo is a fact.
