SÍLVIO ROMERO, EUCLYDES DA CUNHA, MANOEL BOMFIM AND SOCIOLOGICAL EVOLUTIONISM

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to reflect upon the influences of the sociological evolutionism in the discussions carried out by three brazilian thinkers from  the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. Their works reveal not only the first trials to come to an interpretation of Brazil based on Herbert Spencer´s pressuppositions but also a critical dialogue, having in mind the brazilian singularities, with the sociological evolutionism. There was obvious tension in Euclydes da Cunha, Silvio Romero and Manoel Bomfim´s relfections as to the way of incorporating in their analyses, the theory of evolution and the other bio-social principles.
