Acknowledging the vast circulation of genetic criticism at the end of the 20th century and so far in the 21st century, this article organizes a panoramic review of Élida Lois’ (Buenos Aires, 1939) critical work, in order to highlight her foundational work in this theoretical and methodological context. I propose here a reading of the uses that Lois makes of European, particularly French, thought about literary creation and its traces, dialoguing, incorporating, and rejecting certain critical horizons that converged with the investigations already developed in the South American space. Finally, I articulate a possible tradition for the genetic studies in Argentina, from Ana María Barrenechea to Graciela Goldchluk.
