Abstract

The text aims to define accurately the concept of interest in Schopenhauer’s aesthetics, in order to determine the role that it therein plays. The negation of interest, regarded as fundamental in Schopenhauer’s aesthetics, leads to an interpretation that is opposite to Kant’s aesthetics. Uninterest in Kant would be related not to the negative state of sensitive but to a mere indifference towards the existence of the object with the purpose of building art’s own scope where pure aesthetic pleasure lies. An attempt is made to show that uninterest in Schopenhauer’s art philosophy reveals, rather than a nihilistic behavior, another kind of “knowledge”, diverse from rational. As well as in Kant this makes possible to define art specificity and aesthetic feeling.
