Abstract

The purpose of this article is to examine, from the debate that arose in the second half of the nineteenth century about the constitution of nerve tissue between neuronistas and reticularistas, the hybrid proposal for the establishment of the retina by Ferruccio Tartuferi (1852-1925) in 1887. We also intend to start a discussion about some solutions in the second half of the nineteenth century to the explanation of visual perception by purely anatomical and physiological pathways from the concept of visual cell
