Abstract

The teratogeny caused by thalidomide in infants is considered by science to be one of the great pharmaceutical disasters of the twentieth century. Manufactured by a German company, the Grünenthal, the drug was marketed in over 40 countries from the late 1950s, affecting thousands of children. In Spain, thalidomide occupies media space to this day, mainly due to the actions of the Association of Victims of Thalidomide in Spain (AVITE). AVITE, in seeking redress for the victims, acts in indifferent instances. In this article we will analyze some of the tools publicly used by the association, trying to demonstrate how they are triggered in the struggle for justice for those affected.
