Based on the life stories of two artisans based in Rio de Janeiro, this article discusses the different views of art and crafts, which can emerge when observing deeper layers of the artisans' biographies. This article aims to give visibility to the multiplicity of meanings and their smokiness when we approach aspects such as: the relevance of handicrafts in artistic production; the circulation environments of the artifacts; and widespread influences that autonomous jobs can suffer.Downloads
