The article presents the morphological aspects of two squares in Vila Canoas, a favela located in the neighborhood of São Conrado, in Rio de Janeiro. Vila Canoas as well as its neighbor, the favela Pedra Bonita, were urbanized in 2000 by the City of Rio de Janeiro through the Bairrinho Program. The two squares that will be analyzed are a result of this process of implemented urban improvements. By studying the transformation of the landscape, the morphological structure and the functional aspects of the Vila Canoas and São Paulo squares, this article will present the dichotomies that exist between these two outdoor spaces and will carry out an analysis of the appropriation by the residents of these areas. The article will also present a comparative analysis between the proposed urban design of the original project of urban intervention and the implemented result, as it seeks to understand how the final form may have influenced the use and appropriation of the outdoor spaces by the residents.Downloads
