This article derives from professional practice and academic research. Through a project developed with the Paulista Metropolitan Trains Company – CPTM, in the first half of 2011, it was possible to implement, revise and reaffirm the concepts discussed on the research network Quapá-SEL (Landscape Panel- Open Space System) which involved the authors. The methodology results in the understanding of the contradictions, possibilities and barriers in the Landscape Compartments and Units along the existing railway line - Line 7 CPTM - which covers over 60 km and provides access from the Luz Station, located in the central region of São Paulo, to the city of Jundiaí. The method led to successive analysis and synthesis allowing the results presented here. From the reading of the landscape, different types of landscape units were identified. The types were defined based on: the use and occupation forms, the urban centralities.Downloads
