Abstract

Within the wider universe of relationships between the Catholic Church and the State during the Getulio Vargas dictatorship, the article intends to demonstrate the identification of interests between these two divisions of power for the fulfillment of their own aims, using as object of analysis the problem of the family and, as a consequence, of women and their children. The fulfillment of the"New State" and Catholic Church projects was subordinated, to a large extent, to the maintenance of social order and social stability, through the discipline of the family, conceived as the foundation of society.
