Abstract

The purpose of the article is to analyze comparatively the Brazilian Family from Colony to nowadays, observing changes and continuities over time. Using manuscripts and published censuses of population in the last 150 years, it intends to verify what really occurred in the Brazilian society referring to the process of family formation, economic development and population growth.
