Abstract

Regarding the incited scene where organizations endeavor higher competitiveness and market leadership, the focus has been headed for people and their competences. The Competency Management has come as an alternative so that the human resources management can perform based on the individual contribution to the business success. The concept of competency accepts analysis in various levels in the organizational context (core competence, organizational, individual). This paper is a case study of the competency management in a small company. The study consists in a qualitative research which intends to identify and analyze the organizational competences of this firm; aiming at core competences – those which distinguish it and they are not presented by its competitors – assuring a sustainable competitive advantage. Besides the mapping of the individual competences desirable to the company’s people, so that they can seize their work and truly add value to themselves and the organization. Moreover, it was shown a methodology to create policies and practices which enables the prospecting and identification of individual competences, aspiring to develop the competences needed for the structuring of strategies which add perceived-value to the clients.
