Abstract

The use of the concept of social capital in the field of entrepreneurship, as well as in management, is growing. In entrepreneurship, two main perspectives of social capital are used: individual social capital and collective social capital. This paper utilizes the first perspective. Its goal is to analyze how much social capital an individual entrepreneur may contribute to the process of creating a technology-based company, and from this analysis, to formulate proposals that could mark out empirical research on the subject. Fourteen propositions are formulated and presented. They were divided into five critical groups in the process of creating a technology-based company: 1) identification of business opportunities; 2) access to financial resources; 3) learning about new technologies; 4) validation of the emergent company, and; 5) teamwork and partnerships.
