Abstract

The nationalism, characteristic of the between-wars period, 1918-1939, chewed different political and social aspects, which can be verified both in local and global scopes. Therefore, the purposes of this research were to identify the nationalist discourse linked to the rowing practice, from magazines published in 1930 and 1938 by The Guahyba-Porto Alegre Regattas Club (GPA); to analyze the meaning and consequences of this discourse for the GPA.s Teuto-Brazilian community and its relationship with national and international contexts, during the between-wars period. The primary source used on this research was obtained through the reference of GPA.s bibliographical collection and former rowers. personal archives. We can understand through this work that the nationalism divulged by GPA.s journals revealed its directors. concern with the identity affirmation during a period of great oppositions to ethnical identities other than the Brazilian. Founded for the rowing and others aquatic and terrestrial sports practice, GPA actuated in the mouds of Teuto-Brazilian associativism since its foundation
