The aim of this study is to discuss a swimming teaching methodology which goes beyond learning the swimming strokes. A review of the known schools of swimming teaching is presented and its methodological backgrounds analyzed. An alternative approach to the sport oriented model is suggested, which is based on a dynamic interaction among organism, environment and task. This learning approach should emphasize the relationship between the subject and the water environment and not center on the technical mastering of the four swimming strokes.Downloads
