Abstract

Created in 2016, the Human Rights Center (NDH) of the School of Physical Education and Sport (EEFE) of the University of São Paulo (USP) is in charge of creating, implementing and supporting actions promoted by the board of the EEFE-USP, and USP’s rectory, in the interfaces with civil society. The objectives of this paper are: (1) to express the understanding of Education in human rights in higher education and (2) to present the actions directed to education in human rights of the NDH-EEFE. For this purpose, documents such as the 1988 Constitution, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Law of Guidelines and Bases of National Education-LDBEN - Law 9394/96 - and the National Plan for Education in Human Rights, among others, were consulted. The NDH-EEFE-USP seeks through its actions to promote human rights education in the fields of research, teaching, extension, and management based on the relationships between physical education and human movement. In research, it aims to improve this topic as an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary area of knowledge. In education, it aims to add quality to the development of human resources through workshops, awareness-raising activities and interventions in elective and non-elective class. In extension, it seeks to develop qualification activities, advice and events, addressing the issue of human rights, articulated with the areas of teaching and research. In management, the actions involve promoting discussion about the role of managers, employees, teachers and students in relation to the respect and assurance of human rights. More specifically, the current management of the NDH-EEFE has elected as strands of action on these fronts: (1) access to education; (2) permanence in the educational process; (3) access and protection; (4) gender equality and sexual orientation; (5) ethnic-racial equality and (6) equality and religious, political, cultural, territorial and nationality protection. This paper has allowed the assumptions and actions of the NDH-EEFE to be further developed and disseminated.
