Abstract

The activities of the International Year of Planet Earth – IYPE, according to the program originally promoted by UNESCO, presents two main subjects: Science and Divulgation, and the purposes should be reaching the mains goals, as well as promoting in the society reflexive thinking about Earth occupation and use. The goal of the researchers was the participation of the School of Arts, Sciences and Humanities in the International Year of Planet Earth – IYPE, suggested by IUGS and UN, with activities done between the years of 2007 and 2009, with emphasis in 2008. The project involved lots of activities with different “actors” in the geographic scenario where EACH is located, from graduation students to local population, even administrative employers and teachers that work in EACH. Thus, lectures, expositions, symposia, field trips, among others, were some of the activities that sought discussing, thinking and proposing a new point of view as far as Earth occupation and use are concerned.
