Abstract

The work of nurse educators in the vocational nurse education field is of uppermost importance, considering the large number of licensed vocational nurses (and of nursing assistants) and the seriousness of the healthcare actions for which they are responsible throughout the healthcare settings, in all levels of care. The objective of this case report is to describe and point out some reflections of the university extension project called "Nurse Educator Training: Interface between the Vocational Schools and the Teaching Degrees in Nursing" supported by the “Pro-Rectory of Culture and Extension” of the University of São Paulo and which has been developed since August of 2016 and also encompasses previous projects on permanent training of nurse educators. We describe important aspects of the processes and results of that project and we point out reflections on its implications for those involved. This project is a proposition which focuses on the improvement of nurse educator training and of the vocational school nurse student in the healthcare/nursing field and which can promote the interrelation between the university and the vocational school, contributing to strengthening the social commitment of the university to both education and healthcare.
