ANALYSIS OF RESEARCH PROBLEMS IN SCIENTIFIC ARTICLES PUBLISHED IN THE 11TH CONGRESSO USP DE CONTROLADORIA E CONTABILIDADE

Scientific research is used as a means of acquiring knowledge about a certain reality. However, the scientific path is not easy to be undertaken, there are certain difficulties and skills that must be handled. The ability to properly define the research problem is one of them. The objective of this study is to identify the quality of research problems in scientific articles published in the 11th Congresso USP de Controladoria e Contabilidade. A descriptive, documental research has been carried out, predominantly of qualitative nature. Based on the Annals of Congress, 98 articles have been downloaded, tabulated and analyzed, which correspond to all the papers of the congress with the exception of theoretical essays. It was found that 61% of the articles showed some inconsistency concerning the formulation of the research problem. The Actuarial Science, Accounting and Management Control, and Financial Markets Credit and Capital thematic areas, presented the highest percentages of inconsistencies, with 80%, 67% and 65%, respectively. The most recurrent inconsistencies in the formulation of research problems were: research problems not directly stated, and allowing simple “yes” or “no” answers. Although not the most recurrent inconsistency, 16 articles did not include the problem in the introduction of the article.Downloads

No submission or publication fees are charged.
Up to 4 authors per article are accepted. Exceptionally duly justified cases may be reviewed by the Executive Committee of the RCO. Exceptional cases are considered as: multi-institutional projects; manuscripts resulting from the collaboration of research groups; or involving large teams for evidence collection, construction of primary data, and comparative experiments.
It is recommended that the authorship be ordered by contribution of each of the individuals listed as authors, especially in the design and planning of the research project, in obtaining or analyzing and interpreting data, and writing. Authors must declare the actual contributions of each author, filling the letter to the editor, at the beginning of the submission, taking responsibility for the information given.
Authors are allowed to change throughout the evaluation process and prior to the publication of the manuscript. The Authors should indicate the composition and final order of authorship in the document signed by all those involved when accepted for publication. If the composition and authoring order is different than previously reported in the system, all previously listed authors should be in agreement.
In the case of identification of authorship without merit or contribution (ghost, guest or gift authorship), the RCO follows the procedure recommended by COPE.
