Abstract

To better understand the franchiser / franchisee relationship an investigation was made of franchising in Brazil from the point of view of ex-franchisees. A review of literature provided support for an analytical discussion on important aspects that hinder success in franchising. An empirical exploratory survey of ex-franchisees from various sectors of activity in the city of São Paulo was carried out to identify the factors that most frequently caused dissatisfaction and defection.
