The choice of adequate information technology (IT) and careful implementation of Information System projects can lead to success or failure of opportunities in business. Therefore, this study sought to identify Critical Success Factors (CSF) for implementation of a formal methodology for system projects and Strategic Value (SV) as well as the reasons to adopt the methodology, in a large distributor of pharmaceutical products in Southern Brazil. The single case study was used and data were collected for quantitative and qualitative analysis. CFS show that support from senior management, possibility of changes in business processes, project manager skills and ability and commitment of users stood out as most relevant factors as well as the elements of SV, project schedule, product quality and cost reduction and the reasons for adopting the methodology were pressure to reduce costs and improve processes both internally and externally. However, a major contribution of this research was to highlight factors already mentioned in literature some years ago, that may support a better performance of IT in relation to other areas of the organizationDownloads
