Introductory notes about Servius Sulpicius Rufus

The present paper, taking into account the current stage of Roman law research, has the purpose of introducing the main elements necessary for the understanding of the late-Republican jurist Servius Sulpicius Rufus. To this purpose, a brief epitome on author’s biography and works is presented, elucidating how they should be interpreted in relation to their mode of presentation in the Roman sources, concluding with a summary on jurist’s method of interpretation.
